MY SECRET FOR HITTING FOAM ON FOIL!
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Місяць тому
My number 1 biggest tip for more success in hitting foam on a hydrofoil along with a couple other tips and explanations. I forgot to add that foam bashes get exponentially harder and more dangerous the bigger the wave is. Keep it small and work your way up.

2nd session on the code foils. This time around I put the small fuse on the 1130S and the 980S and give my immediate thoughts on feels in the small junky conditions.
CODE FOILS First Impressions
Переглядів 4,5 тис.Місяць тому
Just got a demo set of code foils to play with for a couple weeks. Took out the 1300S, 1075R, and 1130S for maiden flights and give my thoughts on each wing. This review will be continued after more time on all of the demo gear.

UNIFOIL Quiver killer/Portal Enigma review

I go through some of the design characteristics that set this design apart from past designs of larger foil boards. The foil surfing shots shown here are on both the 5-2 and 5-6. For reference, the 5-6 is slightly whiter.

Real Time Foil Review Progression 170

I review the Unifoil progression 170 while taking it on a downwind shore run. Although Im on the 170 here, the characteristics of this wing hold true to the entire line of progression foils.

The colored resin was applied directly to the foam instead of the cloth.
That.. Actually makes me wanna foil.
Very cool. Longboarding on a foil..
Nice reviews! Do get rid of the music :)
Can you g over getting The wing out of the water without needing stiches
Your video is great. Man I can/could do airs on a surfboard but haven’t opened up that door on a foil. Need a Kevlar wetsuit 😂
What weight are you? And would you recommend the 170 over the 140 for 1-3ft waves for an intermediate 165lbs rider? Thanks you!
Epic tips! Thanks Mike.
What length fuse on the 1075?
Foiling killed my surf skillz 😂
would be useful to see a few fails to see how it goes wrong. last time I tried one I cracked the board against my ribs, gets critical quick when you try foam hit 🎵
I have definitely had my fair share of sketchy fails. When it goes wrong theres no consistent thing that happens. It just becomes random foil turbulence that can throw you off in any way. Which is exactly why Id rather not fly the foil through the foam. Picking the right section is key too. Some foam is just way better not messed with haha.
Legend! Thanks for this
As you loose your lift when you are dropping down the Foam Pile what % of Backfoot pressure are you using to prevent the Board from nose diving and getting the Foil engaged again? I know there are at least 100 variables in the equation and you have done it so many times it has become automatic but just a general idea is all I'm looking for. I want to do this behind a Wakeboard boat before I try it ProneFoiling.
Wake boat is a great place to practice for sure. if you really breach the wing and lose all lift then the weighting on the feet can stay surprisingly even. Its not the same feel as breaching when your riding on a wave where the nose pulls down super hard. In this technique you are moving at a lot less speed and entering back into a transition so that helps a lot. Another good way to feel this out is when you are pumping back out to the line up do a planned kind of ollie breach towards the end as your speed starts to drop. This will give you an idea of foot pressure.
What board are you riding?
This is an older hand shaped asymmetric 4-2.
Great video on a unique subject. Many of us have seen you do this and strive to emulate. Thanks for making the journey shorter! 🤙
That is so rad! Keep em coming bru
So Stylish!
i understand everything, but for someone who wants to minimize the chance of tacoing, what would you recommend? Whats the safest and least risky way of hitting the foam? Would it be safer to have your foil deep in the water as you hit the foam instead of having the foil out of the water? it seems super scary what youre doing
Ya you can totally just keep your foil deep and in the clean water. It’s just not as much of a “hit” to me and you won’t be able to snap it in the same way
Could I ask how you get up on such a small board?
I paddle in just like you would on a shortboard. The foil gives more lift than you would think
Such a good breackdown!! Thanks for sharing the wisdom!!
Epic foils. Insane glide and stiffness for heavy riders and rippers. -Tucker
Do you chicken wing to get up on the board?
You mean the double armed paddle?
No when getting up on the board you bring your knee up and place a foot on the back of the board.
If you could demonstrate how you pop up that would be really useful.
Very nice! What board are you on?
This is an older 4-2 I shaped myself. Roughly 33 liters
Ripping! 🤘
Try the 1130 w short fuse and 142
Tried it yesterday with the short and the 150. Total game changer. I’ll try with the 142 next sesh 🤙
Great review Mike! Balanced, trusted. Says a lot about Code Foils coming from you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Yew!!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Its a pity it doesn't show how you get started on the water.
It’s the same as paddling into a wave on a surfboard.
flowwwwwwwwwwww
What volume are you riding in this new Portal Jellyfish model?
This is actually an older hand shaped proto. But we have two jellyfish models we are about to get hands on both right around 30 liters. This one I’m riding in the video is 3-11 and probably 26-28 liters.
@@mikep9586 gotcha, thanks for the reply. Well you are rippin as always on that model too! I’m ready to hear more info on this jellyfish model after y’all get it dialed in!
@@akelly1983 right on brotha, stay tuned!

ripping 🔥
Great edit Mike!
KIller crew.....Killer foiling.
Ripping! please- I need a video on how to hit whitewash without taco impalement. you make it look easy and safe
It’s not safe haha 🤣. But there’s definitely some tricks. I like the idea of making that video. Thanks for the suggestion.
welcom to morocco dakhla city is best for surfing
High quality, the foiling and the edit! 🎉
So epic, what a crew !! ripping boys
Such a good day wit da boyz 🤙! Sick vid Mike!
I have been resisting buying one of these, you aren’t helping!🔥
Ive been trying to resist also. Its starting to get to me though. The FOMO is becoming overwhelming.
If this does let you see what a Foil Drive does for crummy Florida surf then you may as well quit surfing. But pay your dues and learn to foil and Florida is a foilers paradise. Mikey likes it! I love that you show the un-chatchable chip in at 1:50 being caught.
What mast, foil setup, and shim if any?
progression 800 mast. and he was on the 170 and 125 I believe. He came in and switched out once. He usually rides zero shim with 13.5 progression tail on a medium fuse.
🤙
Mike and Erik are true craftsmen that ride at the highest level and understand what the demands are for board design and performance. They make excellent craft and I highly recommend getting on one of their shapes. Keep up the great work boys
Gotta get a mid-length!
Great footage. Looks like you took one or two stabilizing easy forward in momentum strokes then four hard ones and you were up. Awesome!!!!
Been committed to the DW journey for a month here in Charleston, SC. Making it look easy Mike!
